trips from St Quay Portrieux, Binic, Pointe de l’Arcouest,
Trestraou (near Perros-Guirec). You can take the
ferry over to the islands of Bréhat for the day, take a
short trip round the islands or along the coast or take a themed
trip (jazz cruise, sea-fishing, Breton music). From Trestraou,
you can also go to the Sept-Iles bird reserve, breeding ground
for puffins, and home to guillemots, oyster-catchers, cormorants,
gannets and several species of gulls. Depending on season, there
is a chance of catching sight of seals too. Trips vary between
1 hour 15 minutes and 3 hours 30 minutes. Some trips allow 45
minutes on one of the islands for further bird-watching on foot.

· The
Pink Granite Coast About 30 minutes from the Manoir
de Kercadic, between Perros-Guirec and Trébeurden. Beautiful
rugged granite coast and sandy coves. Strange and wonderful stones
and sculptures. Fishing ports, pleasure craft, seaside resorts,
rock pools and wide, shallow, clean sandy beaches.
·The
Goëlo Coast This is the name of the coast
between St Brieuc and Paimpol, about 30 minutes east of the Manoir
de Kercadic. It is characterised by huge, towering cliffs and
rugged coastal paths. There are also many picturesque seaside
resorts and several good, sandy beaches.
Plouha
the highest cliffs in Brittany! Wooden harbour. Bonaparte Beach,
from which Allied airmen shot down in Brittany were evacuated
during the Second World War. Monument.
Binic
Seaside resort and former fishing port. Beaches,
cliff-top paths, panoramic views. Maritime history museum.
St Quay
Portrieux Seaside resort and fishing port with
fish auction. Landing port for Coquilles St Jacques (scallops)
and annual scallop festival. Beaches, casino, cliff-top paths,
views, lighthouse. Le Palus Plage is a beautiful beach just to
the north of St Quay.
· Cliff
paths Way-marked paths stretch right along the
coast from St Brieuc north to Paimpol and beyond. The most notable
is the GR34, which at times becomes known as the excise men’s
route, as the customs men used to patrol this route in search
of smugglers. Also along this coast you can find evidence of Second
World War resistance activity and landing sites of Allied forces
covert operations units. The tourist offices in the area sell
books of leaflets detailing local walks. These indicate the level
of difficulty and likely time, as well as highlighting points
of interest along the route. We also have some of these, which
we will be happy to lend you. Large-scale ordnance survey-type
maps are also useful for serious walkers. We can advise on these.
· The
Bird Sanctuary On Grande Ile, an island off the
coast near Pleumeur-Bodou, there is a bird sanctuary run by LPO,
the French bird protection league. At the sanctuary, there are
displays about birds, films and educational exhibitions about
bird protection, dangers form oil-slicks etc. In summer, they
organise beach-combing walks, (some especially for children) rock-pooling
outings and bird-watching sorties. From Trestraou, you can go
out to the Sept-Iles bird reserve, breeding ground for puffins,
and home to guillemots, oyster-catchers, cormorants, gannets and
several species of gulls. Depending on season, there is a chance
of catching sight of seals too. Trips vary between 1 hour 15 minutes
and 3 hours 30 minutes. Some trips allow 45 minutes on one of
the islands for further bird-watching on foot.
