Local Area
The Manoir de Kercadic is situated just outside the village of
Squiffiec, 10 minutes’ drive north of Guingamp. This is
a quiet, mainly farming community, typical of rural Brittany.
In the village, 10 minutes’ walk up the lane, there is a
church, bar and village shop. If you walk down the lane from the
Manoir de Kercadic, you reach the river Trieux; if you are particularly
keen you can walk all the way to Pontrieux along the river path!
·
Guingamp:
historic town, ruins of old city walls, Basilica with black Madonna,
16thC, 17thC and 18thC half-timbered and granite houses, fountain.
Guided tours in summer (free). Banks, supermarkets, swimming pool,
restaurants, shops. Most shops and all banks are closed on Mondays,
but supermarkets (and McDonalds’!) are open. Market: Friday
in the Place du Vally (fresh produce, clothes, crêpes, pizzas,
fish, flowers etc) and a smaller version on Saturday in the Place
du Centre. Markets are on mornings only. A pretty good football
team, based at the Roudourou stadium. (Didier Drogba moved from
here to Chelsea!)
· The
river Trieux: runs through Guingamp, through Squiffiec
down to Pontrieux, past Le Château de la Roche Jagu and
out to sea past Lézardrieux. Full of wildlife: mallards,
moorhens, toads, even otters. Special fishing licence required.
· Outdoor pursuits: within an hour from
The Manoir de Kercadic you can find golf, fishing, sailing, sand-yachting,
horse riding, canoeing, sub-aqua diving, mountain biking, walking
and hiking. We are happy to help you with bookings, if required.
Further afield, the choice is even wider, encompassing go-karting,
tall-ship sailing and squash, to name but a few! In summer, many
local sports associations run introductory courses, many of them
free, to allow you to try out sports you may not have considered
before.
